Is This Normal Or Do I Have A Virus Or Other Malware? Upnp On Router Shows Ports Are Being Opened Dynamically

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I have a home network with a Netgear router with UPnP enabled connected to Verizon Fios. When I view the UPnP settings in the router it shows that one of the computers on the network has requested two ports be opened (one for TCP protocol and the other for UDP). What is troubling is that the ports that are open and assigned to these two protocols constantly change. (approx. every 2 minutes.) The port numbers range from a low of 1700 to over 60000.
I don’t have any videoconferenceing, games, IM clients, etc. running. I do have Norton Live Update that checks the Internet for updates and Quicktime that does the same. I also have the weatherbug installed.
What program on my PC would be constantly opening differerent ports for very short periods of time? Am I infected with some type of malware, etc.
Thanks for your help.

Home Theater System Not Playing Surround Sound When Listening To Normal Tv?

I have a Zenith ZHD311 DVD player that includes a 5.1 speaker system. I know it’s crappy.
The DVD playback works just fine and all 5 speakers work to play the sound.
However, I also have the audio L and audio R cables going from my TV to the Zenith player. I have Verizon FiOS and apparently, the HDTV is broadcast via Doulby digital 5.1. I have a Mitusibhi HTDV that supports surround sound too. However, for some reason, only the front right and the front left speakers play on the Zenith system when connected to the TV!
Is this normal for 5.1 speaker systems? If so, then the 5.1 speaker system only works with the DVD player? If not, how can I connect the TV to a 5.1 speaker system so that all 5 speakers play. My TV has audio out (R) and audio out (L), and “Digital Audio out” that looks just like an RCA out….
