Need Help Hooking Up My Xbox 360, Tv, Cable Box, And Surround Sound?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

I currently moved and have forgotten how to hook up my electronics in my living area. I have the following:
1. Mitsubishi 65″ DLP TV 1080i resolution
2. XBOX 360
3. Sony 5 Disc DVD Surround System w/ 5.1 Surround
4. Verizon Fios Cable box
I am wanting step by step on how to make the Cable box, Xbox, and DVD player all work seamlessly by changing inputs on the TV. I have one HDMI cable, as well as the AV inputs the components came with. If anyone can tell me how and where to hook up all of the stuff, and in which order, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Surround Sound System Only Performs In Stereo Mode?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

I cannot get my Yamaha receiver to function in surround mode, only stereo mode. I’ve performed a speaker test and all speakers test separately and fine. It’s a Yamaha HTR-5660 6.1 surround system. It’s connected to a DVD player, a FIOS cable receiver and a widescreen TV. Thanks.

New To The High Def Game And Looking For Advise. I Am Looking To Update Dvd Player And Add Surround Sound.?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Here is what I have:
I just purchsed a sony kdf-42E2000 rear projection tv.
I have a 7 year old Daewoo DVD player (has only rca jacks).
I just got verizon’s FIOS tv service.
No additional audio or video equipment.
1) I have limited funds to spend (wife ok’d tv, which was under $1000 at the time, and it is a tug of war for anything else)
2) I live in an apartment (it’s quiet and my wife doesn’t want me to blast out the neighbors)
Here are my questions:
a) Verizon box is connected with component cables, should I use hdmi?
b) Will upconverting help me? tv has 720p and 1080i. How much upconversion can the tv handle1080i or 1080p?
c) A nice surround sound system, with dvd player (upconverted?) that sounds good and won’t be too loud for the neighbors.

Home Theater System Not Playing Surround Sound When Listening To Normal Tv?

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

I have a Zenith ZHD311 DVD player that includes a 5.1 speaker system. I know it’s crappy.
The DVD playback works just fine and all 5 speakers work to play the sound.
However, I also have the audio L and audio R cables going from my TV to the Zenith player. I have Verizon FiOS and apparently, the HDTV is broadcast via Doulby digital 5.1. I have a Mitusibhi HTDV that supports surround sound too. However, for some reason, only the front right and the front left speakers play on the Zenith system when connected to the TV!
Is this normal for 5.1 speaker systems? If so, then the 5.1 speaker system only works with the DVD player? If not, how can I connect the TV to a 5.1 speaker system so that all 5 speakers play. My TV has audio out (R) and audio out (L), and “Digital Audio out” that looks just like an RCA out….
