Home Theater Audio Help?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

I’m getting ready to start setting up my home theater this week, I’m just waiting for some cables to arrive. But I’m a little confused about hooking up audio cables. I’ll have PS3 and XBOX 360 connected via HDMI and the receiver passes both audio and video over HDMI so that isn’t a problem. My problem is I’ll have my FIOS cable box hooked into my TV via HDMI in the 2nd input, the first going to the the A/V receiver. So I’ll need to use coaxial cables for surround sound audio, since the PS2 and Region Free DVD player will take up the 2 optical audio inputs. Basically will there be a problem with audio since I’ve got HDMI going to the TV and audio going to the receiver? This is my first major set-up, so I’m in need of some help.

How Is This For A Home Theater Set Up?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

I think I have finally put together the ultimate setup. But I would like people’s opinions. (Serious ones please) Well here it is
Yamaha THX 7.1 Dolby Digital Receiver with THX Ultra 1000 Digtial cable for sound to blu ray. This thing pumps about 140 watts per speaker it cranks believe me.
Bose Lifestyle 15 5.1 speakers Rear, Center, and surrounds and a 200 watt subwoofer. These things can handle up to 200 watts a piece.
I have 2 rear center channel Pioneer speakers, and also an 80 watt Pioneer subwoofer.
Sony Blu-Ray BDP S-300 Blu ray player with Monster 1000 HDMI cable to tv.
I have Verizon Fios HD receiver with Monster 1000 HDMI to tv.
And a 58″ PN58A650 Samsung 1080p HDTV. plasma.
And all of this is powered by the Monster Box line conditoner. Which gives you optimum picture and power. I would like some opinions and again serious ones only please.

How Do I Correctly Connect Home Theater System?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I bought/ own a 50 inch 1080p Panasonic plasma, a Blu Ray player, a Sony Denon receiver, a 5 disc CD changer, a Wii, and use Verizon Fios HD-DVR. The Denon has multiple HDMI inputs and 2 outputs. I believe I should set it all up by connecting the Blu Ray player and the DVR to the receiver using HDMI cables, then connecting the CD changer with digital audio and the Wii with RCA jacks to the receiver as well. Then, I connect the HDMI from the receiver to the plasma tv? Do I need to run RCA jacks from the receiver to the tv for the Wii or will the receiver upconvert the signal to digital and transmit over the HDMI cable? If I set up this way, all inputs for the tv would go through the receiver, so it would always need to be on even when just watching tv? How would I watch tv with the tv speakers only or would it always be the surround sound speakers? Sometimes with Fios tv shows or playing the Wii, I just want the tv sound not surround sound through the receiver. Now, I am getting myself confused again. Help please!

Home Theater Setup With Fios?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I have a FIOS HD Set top box, a Phillips DVD Player/Home Theater System, and a HDTV.
What is the best way to connect all of this so that when I am watching TV, I can get the audio from my surround sound speaker system, not the TV itsself. As it is now, I can only get surround sound when I am actually using the DVD Player.
Thanks!

Home Theater System Not Playing Surround Sound When Listening To Normal Tv?

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

I have a Zenith ZHD311 DVD player that includes a 5.1 speaker system. I know it’s crappy.
The DVD playback works just fine and all 5 speakers work to play the sound.
However, I also have the audio L and audio R cables going from my TV to the Zenith player. I have Verizon FiOS and apparently, the HDTV is broadcast via Doulby digital 5.1. I have a Mitusibhi HTDV that supports surround sound too. However, for some reason, only the front right and the front left speakers play on the Zenith system when connected to the TV!
Is this normal for 5.1 speaker systems? If so, then the 5.1 speaker system only works with the DVD player? If not, how can I connect the TV to a 5.1 speaker system so that all 5 speakers play. My TV has audio out (R) and audio out (L), and “Digital Audio out” that looks just like an RCA out….

Home Theater Hook-up Help?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I’m looking to upgrade my home audio experience. Currently I just use my TV audio, which isn’t bad. But I’ve got a nice 32″ Vizio LCD HDTV, XBOX 360 (HDMI), PS3 (HDMI) and Verizon Fios HD STB (HDMI). Its got 2 HDMI inputs and I’ve got an HDMI switcher, so I can use all with no problems. But I’m looking at home theater systems and receivers and surround sound, so I’ll need some help.
I’ll start with the receiver:
The receivers I’m looking are the Sony STR-DG520, STR-DG720 and STR-DG820. They all have 2+ HDMI inputs and outputs up to 1080p, which is great. Only problem is that the 520 doesn’t send audio over HDMI, so either optical or coax digital audio cables would be needed.
With the speakers, does it matter what kind? Say I bought a home theater system with no HDMI and wanted to use the speakers, but not the receiver/dvd player. Would that work? Could I mix and match speakers from different systems, some wired and some wireless as long as they’re all connected to the same receiver? Just looking for some help so I don’t have to pay $150 for installation.
