I just moved from Florida to San Francisco and had to discontinue Verizon DSL because they don’t offer it here in San Fran. Unfortunately, I chose At&t knowing that they suck. I have had nothing but problems and my DSL isn’t even activated yet! Is it me or are all of the people that work there just stupid??

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010Last night my Verizon DSL (Westell 6100) just died. I figured it was just a standard hiccup but I waited an hour and the light was still flickering. I tried a bunch of things that Verizon told me to do when this problem came up last time but this time nothing worked. Strangely enough my DSL will come up, perfect and stable only when my house phone is taken off the hook (meaning it’s left off, with the dial tone going.) Could anyone explain why this is happening?

The explainiation is below…
Lets speak about the ration between Kb & Mb first
1 Mb = 1024 Kb
So, your 3 Mbps (Mega bits per seconds) is 3072 Kbps
Now lets compare the speed:
3072 Kbps : 768 Kbps (thats a ratio of 4:1) Download Ratio
768 Kbps : 128 Kbps (thats a ratio of 6:1) Upload Ration
The higher the Download & Upload Speed, the better it is…
This means that you can download a lot of stuff from the internet much faster - this is of course, if the Server you are downloading stuff from enables HighSpeed download, and is not restricted to a maximun Speed (or Bandwidth)
Upload Speed is the Speed and Time it takes you to upload (Send/publish) a file on the interent via file upload to file servers, send file on Messengers, etc…and this is also, restricted to the Server you are using just like download servers…
